Privately owned Australian business group

We build businesses for the long run.

Agile Labs creates, owns and develops businesses.

Since 2015, we have worked across software, e-commerce, digital products, consumer brands and physical products. Today we apply that experience through a group structure built for long-term ownership, disciplined capital allocation and the development of new businesses.

Our history

Built through doing.

Agile Labs started in 2015 by building things.

The early years included software products, e-commerce ventures and consulting work. The Cut explored SaaS in the beauty industry. Keepiece explored premium e-commerce in the luxury watch market. Client work exposed us to different brands, customer journeys, technologies and commercial problems.

The outcomes were mixed.

Some ideas did not work. Some remained small. Some stopped altogether.

What remained was experience.

We learned how products get built, how customers actually behave, where margins disappear, how brands earn trust, how systems break as businesses grow and how quickly a good idea can become a bad investment if the economics are wrong.

That experience now sits inside Agile Labs.

What we do

From opportunity to ownership.

Agile Labs operates across four connected roles.
  1. Build

We create businesses internally when we believe there is a problem worth solving and a genuine reason for us to solve it.

  2. Develop

We test new concepts before committing significant capital, then build the products, systems, teams and commercial model required to move from an idea into an operating business.

  3. Own

We take a long-term view of good businesses. If the underlying economics, product and opportunity remain strong, there is no requirement to manufacture an exit.

  4. Acquire

Not every worthwhile business should be started from zero. We are open to acquiring companies, brands, intellectual property and strategic assets where our capital and operating capability can make a meaningful difference.

Businesses

A portfolio at different stages of maturity.

The group separates established operating businesses from ventures that are still being developed or tested.

That distinction matters.

An idea in incubation has not earned the same capital, certainty or status as a business already serving customers. The purpose of the process is to find out which opportunities deserve to progress.

Our businesses

How ideas progress

Ideas have to earn capital.

Starting a business is easy.

Continuing to fund one is a different decision.

Agile Labs uses different stages to separate possibility from commitment.

  1. Incubation

Test the problem, customer, economics, strategic fit and capital requirements.

  2. In Development

Commit resources to building the product, platform, operating model and route to market.

  3. Operating

Serve customers, generate revenue, improve the economics and build a durable company.

  4. Scale

Increase investment when the business has demonstrated that additional capital can create additional value.

Some concepts will progress.

Some will change.

Some will stop.

That is not a failure of the process. It is the purpose of it.

Ownership

We think like owners because we are owners.

Long-term ownership changes the questions you ask.

Instead of asking what makes this quarter look better, we can ask what makes the company stronger.

Instead of adding complexity for appearance, we can focus on capability that customers will actually pay for.

Instead of treating every business as something to eventually sell, we can decide whether the best owner is still us.

Our approach is built around a few principles.

  1. Product before promotion

A strong brand matters, but it cannot permanently compensate for an ordinary product or service.

  2. Capability before dependency

Where a capability is strategically important, we would rather understand it deeply than permanently outsource our judgement.

  3. Capital with a purpose

Cash retained inside a business should improve the business, protect it or create another valuable option.

  4. Global ambition, Australian base

Australia is where we build. It does not have to define the size of the market.

  5. Long-term ownership

We are comfortable owning good businesses for a long time.

The future

The businesses we own today are not the limit of the group.

Agile Labs is being built to own a broader portfolio over time.

That may include businesses created internally, companies acquired from founders, intellectual property, strategic property and physical assets that support an operating advantage.

Areas of long-term interest include:

  • Technology and software
  • Automotive and engineering
  • Specialist manufacturing
  • Media and content
  • Nature tourism and hospitality
  • Motorsport
  • Property
  • Outdoor and adventure
  • Distribution
  • Selected specialist assets

We do not need to operate in every sector.

We need to recognise the opportunities where we have a genuine reason to participate and be disciplined enough to ignore the rest.

Build something worth owning.

Whether you are building a business, considering what comes next for one you already own, looking for a strategic partner or interested in the long-term development of Agile Labs, we are open to the right conversation.
